As the result of their extremely successful quilt show, held in July at the Village Hall in Titchfield, the Solent Stitchers have donated £1,000 towards the hall building fund.
Wendy Payne, the Chair of the Stitchers group, who meet twice a month at the hall, said: “we were extremely pleased with the turn out and are more bthan happy to make this contribution which will help keep the Titchfield Village Hall at the centre of our community”. She also added that any further fund raising events they may hold this year would also be donated towards the hall refurbishment.
Nick Girdler, chairman of the Trust, who run the hall, accepted the money and thanked the group for all their hard work in putting on the show. He then outlined the plans for future to remodelling and refurbishment to make it fit for purpose for the next 50 years.
Building work has already begun on replacing all the tiles on the roof and at the same time installing three rows of solar panels on the south side which will eventually bring energy costs in running the hall down considerably.
The cost of the building works is being paid for from the £150,000 the Village Trust has raised over the last 3 years.
